Bad news

Unfortunately our worst case scenerio has come true for our travel plans.  By choosing to do one trip to Korea instead of two we knew our stay could be anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending upon the Judge and how speedy they went through the prodecures that needed to take place.  In the past Judges took mercy on the one trip families and tried to move their cases along faster.  We rolled the dice with a new judge and decided to stay.

We found out on Thurday that our Judge finally issued a public posting since Grant's birth mom couldn't be located upon the third mailing attempt by the Court (this is the part we hoped would have been rushed).  Our social worker informed us this posting period lasts for 15 day and then begins the mandatory 14 day appeal period that every case goes through.  So, that means we cannot come home until the week of July 14th.  That is another month, two months total.

We definitely would have done two trips if we knew this was going to be the case.  But because we have custody we are stuck here in country.  Honestly, we are still trying to wrap our minds around this. We just want to get home and introduce Grant to his permanent surroundings.  On the up side, there is no doubt Grant knows who his new family is and after another month here should be completely comfortable with us.

On the downside, we are getting pretty exhausted trying to find kid friendly activities in the city everyday.  They do not have many public playgrounds for kids, and none in walking distance to our hotel.  So everyday we have to pack up and find a new adventure for the boys.  Especially because the small confines of the hotel room just lead to fighting over toys non-stop.  Sounds great in theory to be off work and having "fun" every day and it was for 4 weeks.  But we ready to come home now.

Thankfully I have a adoption friend that came to our hotel this week that are also doing one trip and they have a son close in age to Auden. So we are trying to do some play dates with the older boys to give Auden some time away from Grant.  Also, we are so thankful at this point that Cody's mom will be coming for a week next Wednesday.  This will be good for Auden and will break the monotony for us.

So, that's where we are right now.  Taking one day at time and counting down until July 14th.

  1. I'm so sorry, I remember how miserable it was to spend every day playing house in a small apartment surrounded by nothing familiar, when you just want to get home and start your real life as a family. Hugs!

  2. Well, it is a set back but remember as long as you are all together you can make it your home. And when you DO finally get back it will be all the more sweeter. And in no time this will all be a pleasant memory.
